Box Score Harrogate, TN- The Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters encountered their first defeat in league play on Saturday afternoon as they fell 1-6 against the Wingate University Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Despite the setback, the Railsplitters maintain a strong overall record of 11-4 and a commendable 3-1 record in league play, while the Wingate Bulldogs improve to 5-4 overall and remain undefeated with a 3-0 record in the SAC.
Doubles Play:
Despite a determined effort from the Railsplitters, the top-seeded pair of Alexandru Giurea and Sergio Sebastian Aranzeta Bonita fell 1-6 in doubles.
The combination of Harper Mills and Thom Hermans continues to dominate doubles play, the duo beat Florian Walcher and Carlo Rosellini 6-4.
Heading into singles play, the Railsplitters found themselves trailing 0-1.
Singles Play:
Alexandru Giurea secured the lone win against a highly competitive Wingate team. He won his first set 6-4 and fell 1-6 in the second set. The pair went into a third set, battling for victory. Giuerea came out on top 10-5.
Radu Florea battled hard at two singles but was unable to overcome his opponent, ultimately falling with a score of 3-6, 2-6.
Despite putting up a strong fight, William Jonsson couldn't secure the win at three singles, losing with a score of 2-6, 2-6.
Thom Hermans lost to his opponent 3-6, 5-7 at four singles.
Harper Mills fought at five singles but couldn't turn the tide in his favor, ultimately losing with a score of 2-6, 2-6.
Franco Battaglino showcased his talent and skill at six singles, but despite his best efforts, he fell short with a score of 2-8.
While the outcome was not in our favor, the Railsplitters remained determined and focused on bouncing back stronger against Tusculum on Wednesday.
