Harrogate, TN - Two days after defeating Kentucky State at home, the Lincoln Memorial baseball team was back in action on Friday, this time, defending its home field against rival Carson-Newman. With just a two game separation between the two in conference standings, the Railsplitters were vying for conference footing. The Eagles entered the game in fourth in the conference standings and the Splitters came in in the sixth position.
Carson-Newman was the first on the board, tallying a run in the first inning. After holding the Railsplitters off the board in the first two innings, the Eagles added to their run total with two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Kasten Harvey for Lincoln Memorial's first run, cutting the deficit to two runs, 3-1. The Railsplitters held the Eagles off the board in the fourth inning, adding a run in the bottom of the inning when

Austin Epperson with a single to left field to cut the score to 3-2.
Carson-Newman bounced back in the fifth inning, adding one run to its total to bring the score to 4-2. Lincoln Memorial responded with one run in the bottom of the fifth when
Cameron Bowen connected on a solo shot homer to cut into the lead, 4-3. From there, the Eagles began to pour it on, adding six runs across the sixth and seventh inning, taking a 10-3 lead late into the game. The lead swelled to 14-3 in the top of the ninth inning as Lincoln Memorial failed to add another run, seeing Carson-Newman take game one, 14-3.
The Railsplitters and Eagles will wrap the weekend series on Saturday with game two slated for 1:00 PM and game three to follow at 4:00 PM.
