Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team's season came to a close on Saturday with a loss to the #9 Newberry Wolves at home, 16-7. Finishing the regular season with a 4-11 record and a 1-8 mark in conference play, the Railsplitters will not be playing in the conference tournament.
Lincoln Memorial played a
ridiculously tough schedule this season, facing five teams ranked inside the top-20. That's 25% of the top 20 teams, including the defending national champion Lenoir-Rhyne Bears and the number two ranked Limestone Saints. The Railsplitters had three games this season that were decided by two goals or less.Â
Saturday's game against Newberry got ugly fast before Lincoln Memorial began to fight back. The Wolves jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead. The Railsplitters then outscored the Wolves 7-5 for the remainder of the game, but the damage had been done.
Rhodes Conroy tallied the first two goals for Lincoln Memorial in the second quarter to cut the lead to 11-2.
Daniel Pearl then added his first goal moments later to give the Railsplitters their third goal of the game, bringing the score to 11-3. Lincoln Memorial failed to add another goal for the remainder of the first half. Trailing 12-3 at the half, the Railsplitters came out on fast in the third quarter, tallying back-to-back goals as
Jenson Jones and
Quinn Hepler worked their way into the scoring column to bring the score to 12-5.
Michael Rogers fired a missile into the net late in the third for his first goal of the game. Pearl scored the last Lincoln Memorial goal of the season with 10:09 left in the fourth quarter. Newberry went on to secure a 16-7 victory, ending the Railsplitters' season.
