Harrogate, TN- The men's tennis team took down the fourth seed Tusculum earlier today in the 2024 Men's South Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament.
In the regular season, the Railsplitters fell to the Pioneers in a match-up that came down to the final match-up before Tusculum prevailed 4-3, but this time the Railsplitters used what they had learned to defeat the Pioneers when it mattered most.
Despite a setback in doubles, the Railsplitters aimed to shift momentum in their favor during singles matches.
The Railsplitters asserted their dominance with three consecutive straight-set victories in singles, swiftly propelling them to a commanding 3-1 lead. Despite the Pioneers' resilience, epitomized by Subanovic's remarkable comeback from a set down to defeat Giurea 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 at flight one, Lincoln Memorial remained unfazed. At the #1 position, LMU's Alexandru Giurea engaged in a closely contested battle against TU's Nemanja Subanovic. Despite a valiant effort, Giurea fell short, with the scores reflecting the intensity of the match: 6-1, 6(6)-7(8), 1-6.
Lincoln Memorial's very own, Thom Hermans, emerged victorious in the #3 match against Anton Krondell. The hard-fought battle concluded after 3 sets with scores of 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Franco Battaglino of Lincoln Memorial showcased his dominance in the #4 match, claiming victory over Tusclums's Rens Verhaar with decisive scores of 6-2, 6-4, exemplifying Battaglino's consistency and composure under pressure.
