Harrogate, TN- Women's volleyball will travel to Cleveland, Tennessee this Friday, September 13th, and Saturday, September 14th, for the Flame Invitational hosted by Lee University. The Splitters are slated to face four schools at the tournament, playing two games each day.Â
LMU is 3-1 so far this season, coming off an undefeated time at the Chowan Invitational last weekend followed by a tough game against Carson-Newman earlier this week. Thus far, LMU has outhit their opponents, averaging over two more kills per set and an attack percentage of .220 to the .064 from the other side of the net.
Kristen Moehring is the team's individual leader in kills, averaging four per set. Abagail Kesler and Megain Maier have also been key in the attack category, tallying 25 a piece so far this season. Setter Lauren Picket has received much of the workload on that front, averaging nearly 10 assists per set. On the defensive side,
Lauren Jacob has averaged four digs per set so far while
Agata Bogdanska has tallied 14 blocks, good for an average of more than one per set.Â
The first opponent of the weekend will be Great American Conference member Arkansas Tech on Friday. The teams have met four times previously, ATU taking all four of the past match ups. This year, Arkansas Tech has begun the season 1-3, their most recent contest ending in a loss to Oklahoma Christian. The Golden Suns are hitting .168 so far this season, being outnumbered by their opponents in nearly all stat categories (attack, set, serve, receptions, defense, and blocking). This game will take place at 9 AM.
Georgia College and State University will be the 4:30 PM match later on Friday. The two programs have met six times before, LMU holding the series edge between them. GCSU has also begun the season 3-1, winning their most recent game against Young Harris last Saturday. GCSU has played fairly close with their opponents so far this season, holding the edge in the attack, set, and blocking categories, but falling short to their opponents in serving and digs.Â
Eckerd is 2-1 to start the 2024 season, most recently dropping a four setter to #4 ranked Wayne State College last weekend. The Tritons have hit for .230 through their contests while also averaging 12 assists per set, 16.55 digs per set, and 1.64 blocks per set. Eckerd has won both previous meetings between the schools. This game will be the first between the schools in over 15 years, taking place on Saturday at 11:30 AM.
LMU will round out the tournament by facing the host school Lee University on Saturday at 7 PM. Lincoln Memorial is 4-5 all-time against Lee, winning their most recent contest last year in four sets. Lee is unbeaten on the season, going 4-0 so far and leading nearly every stat category over their opponents. Their most recent action included two wins last Saturday over Georgia College and State University and Southern Wesleyan.
