Harrogate, TN- Women's volleyball will kick of their 2024 campaign this Friday, September 6th, and Saturday, September 7th, at the Chowan Invitational in Murfessboro, NC.Â
Coach Cash said this ahead of the opener: "The 2024 Season is finally upon us, and we are eager to play against other opponents. It's a great opportunity to see different styles of play and to make adjustments on the fly. In my opinion, it's the best way to learn the game. Team 36 has been working hard and getting better every single day and I know they are excited for the opportunity to show that at the tournament this weekend. The coaching staff is excited to see them perform and continue to get better together. We are looking forward to the start of the grind!"
LMU's first opponent will be Elizabeth City State University on Friday at 4 PM. The two teams have only met once before back in 2007 where the Railsplitters fell in four sets. ECSU went 20-13 last season, falling to Shaw University in the CIAA Championship game.Â
Saturday's 9 AM game will feature a familiar matchup against Newberry, picked 10th in this year's SAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. LMU holds the series over Newberry, going 23-14 in the two schools' history, 3-1 in neutral site contests. Last season's contest between the two would go Newberry's way in a five-setter.Â
The 11 AM game will be a face-off with the host school of Chowan. The two programs will play for the fourth time, LMU earning the wins in all three of the previous contests. The Lady Railsplitters won last year's contest, earning the sweep in Murfeesboro.
