Charleston, WV - The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team will travel to Charleston, WV on Friday to face the University of Charleston twice: Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 1 pm.
This will be the sixth and seventh time that Lincoln Memorial will be playing the Golden Eagles, with the series record being 1-4. Last season, in January of 2024, was the only time that the Railsplitters have defeated University of Charleston, 3-2.
Lincoln Memorial is coming off of a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21) against Belmont Abbey.
Axel van Baars led in kills and service aces with 11 kills and 3 service aces, and
Eliel Salva Torres led in blocks with 5.
John Luers had team-highs in both assists and digs, with 40 assists and 11 digs.
Offensively,
Griffin Wheatley and Luers are leading the team, with Wheatley tallying 20 kills for 2.50 kills per set and Luers averaging 9.63 assists per set. On the defensive side, Luers is also leading in digs with 15 on a 1.88 average, with Van Baars slightly behind him with 14 kills averaging 1.75 digs per set. Salva Torres is leading in blocks with 10 (1 solo block, 9 block assists) on a 1.25 block per set average with Gentry behind him with 9 (2 solo blocks, 7 block assists), averaging 1.13 blocks per set.
Recently, Lincoln Memorial was voted to finish first in the 2025 IVA Men's Volleyball Preseason Poll. Also, in the latest AVCA National Collegiate Men's Voleyball Poll, the Railsplitters were receiving votes.
The University of Charleston are coming off of two losses against Queens University of Charlotte (1-3, 2-3).
