Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters defeat the Emory & Henry Wasps 79-77 in overtime for their eighth overall win and seventh conference win of the season.
LMU dominated the first quarter and posted 21 points and Emory & Henry only putting up 11 points. There were seven different scorers in the first quarter alone. The Wasps picked up the momentum in the second, as they outscored Lincoln Memorial by 2 points, 18-16. The score going into halftime was 37-29 with the Lady Railsplitters in the lead. In the first half, LMU went 48.3% from the field and 6/15 from behind the arch, with 5 of those threes coming from the first quarter and coming from 5 different players.
The third quarter was a battle, as Lincoln Memorial registered 20 points compared to Emory & Henry's 21 points. In the fourth, Emory & Henry caught up and scored 20 points and LMU only scored 13, making the score 70-70 at the end of regulation, forcing the game into overtime.
In the first overtime period, Lincoln Memorial outscored the Wasps 7-9, making 5/6 free-throws to give LMU their seventh conference win of the season.
Kamil Collier and
Caroline Sikkink both led the team on the night in points, both registering 18 points. Tonight Sikkink recorded her LMU career-high in points. Along with 18 points, Collier posted 8 rebounds and Sikkink recorded 7.
Lexi Patty registered her first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and posting a career-high 10 rebounds.
Alexa Smiddy also scored double-figures, registering 10 points, 7 rebounds, and team-high 5 assists.
Matty Tanner recorded 9 points and
Dominique Rodriguez scored 4.
Asia Barr and
Federica Lagana finished out the scoring with 3 points each.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 47.4% from the field and 32% from the three. The Lady Railsplitters went 17/22 from the free-throw line and out rebounded the Wasps 40-33.
LMU scored 38 points from the paint, 11 fast break points, and 7 points off of Emory & Henry turnovers.
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 8-9 overall and 7-7 in South Atlantic Conference play.
Their next game will be on Saturday, January 25
th as they travel to Wingate, NC to face Wingate at 2 pm.
