Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team defeated the Newberry Wolves Saturday evening 1-0.
Possession went back and forth for the first 24 minutes of the match, and both were able to fire off shots, but they were either off frame or blocked.
The first on target opportunity came from the Wolves in the 24th minute, which gave
Daniel Benedek Miklosi his first sve of the evening.
LMU got fouled in the penalty box in the 35th minute, therefore was awarded a penalty kick taken by
Gian-Carlo Kama, but the attempt was wide of the goal.
One minute later in the 36th minute, Benedek Miklosi earned himself another save by a on frame Newberry shot.
The Railsplitters ended the half on a positive note as with 30 seconds left in the half in the 44th minute,
Dani Cruz lobs the ball to the top of the 18-yard box to
Hays Adams, who slots the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal out of the Newberry goalkeeper's reach to give LMU the lead going into halftime 1-0.
The first on target attempt from Lincoln Memorial in the second half came in the 53rd minute, as
Enrique Martin took a shot, which was saved.
Newberry followed with a shot in the 57th minute on target, which was saved by Benedek Miklosi.
Posession juggled, but neither team was able to get another shot on frame until the 72nd minute where LMU's
Botond Skulka took a shot on frame, saved.
With that being the last scoring opportunity for either team, the Railsplitters came out with the win 1-0.
Adams recorded the lone goal of the evening for the Railsplitters, as Cruz tallied the assist. Skulka led in shots with three, and Adams, Skulka, and Martin each led with one shot on goal. Benedek Miklosi earned himself three saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 13 shots, with three being on frame, had two corner kicks, and three saves.
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 3-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in SAC play, and Newberry drops to 5-2-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
Their next match will be their last non conference match up of the season on the road against Clayton State on Wednesday, October 15th at 3:30 pm.
