Field hockey sets multiple program records in win over Barton on Senior Day

Harrogate, TN – Four days after falling in its final road game of the regular season, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was on its home turf Saturday for Senior Day, playing host to the Barton Bulldogs. The Railsplitters defeated the Bulldogs early in the season prior to Saturday's match up. Barton entered the game winless, with an 0-13 record overall, including an 0-8 mark in conference play. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with an overall record of 4-11 with a 1-7 mark in conference play.

The Railsplitters honored seniors Brooke Foster and Olivia Rosini ahead of the contest, highlight each player for their contributions to the program. Both players have been instrumental in the growth and development of the program. Both Foster and Rosini were freshmen in the inaugural season of play for Lincoln Memorial, growing alongside the program for the last four seasons. Through smiles, and a few tears, the Railsplitters geared up for the game and came out firing fast.

Earlier in the season, Lincoln Memorial took a road victory over Barton, tallying two late goals to secure the victory. Saturday's game was nearly the opposite. Rosa Duivenvoorden got things started, scoring quickly to five the Railsplitters a quick 1-0 lead. A short time later, Rosini became Lincoln Memorial's all-time leader in career goals scored, tallying the second goal of the game to give the Railsplitters a quick 2-0 lead that held through the half.

Lincoln Memorial failed to relent as play began in the second half. Guadalupe Montaldo extended the lead to 3-0 with a quick goal in the third period. It was the first time since the season opening contest that the Railsplitters tallied three goals or more on the season. It appeared that Lincoln Memorial matched its all-time program record for goals scored in a game when Jimena Loustalot fired a missile from the top of the arc, but the goal was wiped off, leaving the score at 3-0 in favor of the Railsplitters late in the third quarter. The score would hold through to the final frame of action.
After having the record-tying goal wiped off earlier in the second half, Lincoln Memorial matched its record for goals scored in a game when Jolie Plaisier netted her first of the game, extending the lead to 4-0 with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. Just 10 seconds of game time later, another record was set when Loustalot found the back of the cage, giving the Railsplitters a new record for goals scored in a game, taking a 5-0 lead with just under nine minutes left in action. In the closing minutes of the final frame, Plaisier added another goal with an assist from Loustalot to further extend the lead to 6-0, which would hold until the final horn.

Lincoln Memorial completely dominated the game from start to finish, maintaining constant aggression in the offensive zone, while simultaneously eliminating any chance Barton had in the offensive zone. By the start of the fourth quarter, the Railsplitters were out shooting Barton 21 to 1, with 15 shots on goal, including 15 penalty corners. The front line of the Lincoln Memorial defense gave goalkeeper Cayla Wiggins an easy day, but when faced with shots, she allowed nothing, tallying the shutout.
