Wingate, NC – The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team fell to the Wingate Bulldogs 2-4 Saturday evening.
The Bulldogs started off the match quickly as their first on goal opportunity resulted in a goal in the 4
th minute as Polk scored.
For the next 26 minutes, Lincoln Memorial produced several scoring chances, but were off target or blocked. The first on frame shot was in the 31
st minute, as
Jade Brown took a shot which was saved.
Four minutes later,
Maiara Windszus Pessanha took a shot on goal in the 35
th minute, also saved.
Wingate extended their lead in the 36
th minute as Barndt scored the Bulldogs' second goal of the match.
Edie Wilds took a last minute shot in the first half to try to put a goal on the board in the 44
th minute, but was saved by the Wingate goalkeeper. The score going into halftime was 0-2 with Wingate in the lead.
LMU started the second half on a positive note as just three minutes into the half, as
Ellie Snyder intercepts a Wingate pass in LMU's attacking third, dribbles it to the top of the 18-yard box, and fires a shot right over the Bulldog goalkeeper to make the lead 1-2.
The Railsplitters continued to push offensively as
Paige Branam took a shot on frame in the 51
st minute, saved.
Wingate extended their lead back in the 59
th minute as Halldorsdottir scored to make the score 1-3.
LMU responded quickly with almost scoring in the 60
th minute with
Hannah Stafford puts a shot on frame in the 60
th minute.
Emma Cooke recorded a save with a Wingate shot in the 65
th minute, followed by a blocked shot in the 67
th minute by
Sophia Berglund.
In the 75
th minute, Wingate got their fourth goal of the match as Hernandez scored.
The Railsplitters got their second goal of the day in the 84
th minute as
Mary Eunice lobs the ball to
Jade Brown seven yards out and she fires it past the goalkeeper to make the score 2-4.
Wingate had one more attempt in the 89
th minute as Cooke recorded another save. With that being the last chance from either team, Wingate took the win 2-4.
Brown and Snyder recorded a goal each, and Eunice tallied the lone assist of the day. Snyder and Stafford both led in shots with three each and Brown registered two shots on goal. Cooke recorded two saves on the match.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial had 15 shots, with seven on frame, three corner kicks, and two saves.
With the loss, the Railsplitters move to 4-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the SAC, and Wingate moves to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
LMU's next match will be on the road as they travel to Bluefield, WV on Wednesday, October 8
th as they face Bluefield State at 1 pm.
