Men's basketball slated for first home game of the season Wednesday

Harrogate, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team will open its home schedule on Wednesday night with a 6:30 PM tip-off at Tex Turner Arena, playing host to Elizabeth City State University. Coming into the home opener, the Railsplitters have already shown signs of resilience and promise, putting together a strong effort in their first two games of the season. In its season opener on Nov. 14, Lincoln Memorial fell just short in a hard-fought 90–89 overtime loss to North Georgia. The Railsplitters shot a sharp 50.7 percent from the field, though they struggled from deep (1-for-14, 7.1%), but still managed to force 14 turnovers.  Just one day later, the Railsplitters rebounded with an 81–78 win over Georgia College & State University. They shot 44.4% from the floor, hit 13-of-32 three-pointers (40.6%), and made 12-of-16 free throws (75%).  The Railsplitter bench was especially effective, outscoring Georgia College's bench 41–17, and LMU controlled many second-chance opportunities with strong offensive rebounding early in the game.

Elizabeth City State played a pair of exhibitions prior to Wednesday's match up with Lincoln Memorial; its true season opener. The Vikings played the East Carolina University Pirates in an exhibition on Nov. 13, falling narrowly by one point, 71-70.  As the Railsplitters charge into the beginning of their home slate, several players are distinguishing themselves through strong individual performances. Under Head Coach Tony Jasick, the team has leaned on a core of high-impact players to set the tone on both ends of the court. Lincoln Memorial is led offensively by a trio of players averaging over 15 points-per-game, seeing nearly six players average double figures. Nate Mims leads the team in scoring through two games, averaging 17 points-per-game. HE is also tied for the team lead in rebounds-per-game, hauling in average of six boards per contest. EJ Smith follows closely, averaging 16.5 points-per-game. Drew Lewis averages 15 points-per-game, while leading the team in assists with 6.5 assists-per-game to go along wih 4.0 rebounds-per-game. Yassin Hussein, Amhad Jarrard, and Jayden Spearman each average just under 10 points-per-game (9.5) through two games this season.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM, with doors opening at 5:30 PM.
