Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial women's basketball dominated the court against Lenoir-Rhyne Friday afternoon as they defeated the Bears 88-77 to keep their win streak alive.
The Lady Railsplitters came out dominating in the first quarter, going 8/16 from the field and forcing the Bears to eight turnovers. With
Alexa Smiddy almost tallying double-digits in the first with nine, LMU ended the quarter leading 28-12.
The second was much like the first, but the three was on for Lincoln Memorial as they went 7/11 from beyond the arch, along with going 50% from the field. AJ Gillard shot 3/4 from the three to lead the quarter with nine points, which helped the team outscore Lenoir-Rhyne 29-18. The score going into halftime was 57-30 with LMU having a near 30-point lead.
The third quarter was the lowest scoring quarter for Lincoln Memorial, as they only put 14 points on the board, with Smiddy scoring 11 of those points, compared to L-R's 18. Smiddy Despite that, Lincoln Memorial went into the fourth quarter leading 71-48.
The Bears shortened Lincoln Memorial's lead in the fourth quarter by scoring 29 points, but LMU nearly evened it out with 17. Despite the high scoring quarter from the Bears, the Lady Railsplitters ended the game with an 88-77 victory.
Smiddy led the team in scoring as she put 31 points on the board for LMU.
Keiara Anderson and
Kamil Collier also recorded double digits as Anderson added 11 points and 4 rebounds, and Collier registered 10 points and five rebounds.
Sariya Henry tallied nine points along with team-leading six rebounds, with
Ajalon Gillard also adding nine points.
Asia Barr followed with six points and six rebounds, and Patty after her with six points and team-high three assists.
Maleiya Hill recorded three points, rebounds, and assists, and
Kallie Housley rounded out the scoring with three points.
Lincoln Memorial recorded 24 points off of L-R turnovers, 12 second chance points, 14 points from the bench, 22 points in the paint, and 12 fast break points.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 42.6% from the field, 41.4% from beyond the arch, and 30/40 from the charity stripe. Rebounding was even as both teams secured 29 rebounds.
With the win, Lincoln Memorial remains undefeated with a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 SAC record. The Beras drop to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
LMU's next game will be on Saturday, December 6
th as they travel to Salisbury, NC to face Catawba at 2 pm.
