Men's basketball routs Johnson C. Smith at home

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was back in the confines of B. Frank "Tex" Turner Arena on Wednesday night, seeking to bounce back at home following a loss to in-conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne on Black Friday. The Railsplitters played host to the visiting Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with a 2-3 record. Johnson C. Smith sitting at 3-2 on the year. The Railsplitters made quick work of the bulls, gliding to a 111-76 victory, scoring triple digits for the first time under first year head coach Tony Jasick.

The Bulls netted the game's first four points from the charity stripe, but the charity ran out for Johnson C. Smith shortly thereafter. Lincoln Memorial responded with a 5-0 run to take a 5-4 lead three minutes into the contest and never looked back. The Railsplitters' defense held the Bulls to just 35% shooting from the floor in the first half while torching the nets on 58% of attempts on offense. Along with holding Johnson C. Smith to just 35% from the floor, Lincoln Memorial forced 15 turnovers, which it turned into 22 points. The Railsplitters also dominated the interior, winning the first half rebounding battle 20-8, and points in the paint 38-10. Lincoln Memorial also shared the ball exceptionally well, assisting on nearly 50% of field goals in the first half, cruising to a 51-28 lead at the half.

Johnson C. Smith's comeback attempt began with an early push in the second half, drawing back to within 16 points, 54-38. However, Lincoln Memorial reintroduced pedal to metal, extending the lead to as many as 35 points, 89-54, with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. The writing was on the wall as the Railsplitters moved into cruise control, coasting to a 111-76 victory, improving to 3-3 on the season. Lincoln Memorial put a whole game together, holding Johnson C. Smith to the third-lowest point total allowed this season while scoring 21 more points than its previous season-high.
The Bulls improved on their shooting percentage into the second half, improving to 47% from the floor, however, the Railsplitters forced 24 turnovers which led to 38 points. Lincoln Memorial owned the interior all night, in every aspect, winning the rebounding battle 40-24 and dominating points in the paint 72-38. The Railsplitters assisted on 24-of-44 made baskets. Lincoln Memorial's bench out scored Johnson C. Smith's 73-20. The Railsplitter offense saw all but one player score, with five players in double figures.
