Softball Splits on Opening Day of the Railsplitter Invitational

Harrogate, TN- LMU Softball split their opening day games today during the Railsplitter Invitational, beating Lees-McRae 11-1 in the first and then falling to Tiffin 1-5 in the second.

Halle Grace Patton would get the start in game one, beginning the game strong with a scoreless half-inning in the top of the first. Anna Kate Reichter would open up things offensively, singling and then advancing to second before crossing the plate thanks to a Jordann Reagan base hit. Hannah McMeen would draw a walk followed by a Skylar Jacob single to load the bases. Nicole Couvertiere's ensuing single would score two more to give the Railsplitters an early 3-0 lead.

A Gracie Palmer single, Reese Vivrette walk, and Reichter hit by pitch in the second would give the Railsplitters a loaded base situation yet again, teeing it up for Kristin Griffin to hit a base-clearing double and extend the lead to six. Reagan would score Griffin shortly after, pushing it to seven. Following a scoreless third, Lees-McRae's Presson would homer to put a run up on the board. That's where the Bobcat scoring would end, however, as RBI hits from Griffin, Reagan, Jacob, and Hannah McMeen would give the Splitters a lead big enough to win by run rule in the fifth. With it, Patton threw a complete game to earn her first win in the Blue and Gray.

The second contest Tiffin would be a battle in the circle. Skylar Jacob would get the start for game two, yet another complete game from the LMU pitching staff. Across from her, Tiffin's Lexi Key would be a tough test, also lasting all seven in the circle and giving up only four hits to the Splitters. One of those would come in the bottom of the second as Hanna Bogoski would step up and single to score McMeen who had reached on a fielder's choice to give LMU the early lead. Tiffin would find an answer in the third, hitting a three-run homer to push ahead 3-1. Neither team would find an offensive rhythm until two runs following a Lincoln Memorial fielding error would put the game out of reach.

Lincoln Memorial moves to 1-1 on the 2025 season and will return for the second day of the Railsplitter Invitational, getting the rematch with Tiffin at 12 PM and another contest against Lees-McRae at 4 PM.
