Men's Volleyball Hosts Fort Valley State Friday

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team will play host to the Fort Valley State University Wildcats Friday evening with the match set to begin at 6 pm as they seek their 11th win of the season. 

The two teams have only played each other two times in series history, with the Railsplitters dominating the series 2-0. The two times that LMU and FVSU faced each other were in 2023, with the first match in February of 2023 in Fort Valley and the second March of 2023 in Harrogate, and Lincoln Memorial swept both matches 3-0.

The Railsplitters are coming off of a 3-0 win against Lees-McRae. Matthew Gentry almost tallied double-digit kills, as he posted a team-high 9 kills for an attack percentage of .818, and he also led in blocks with 4. John Luers led the game in assists with 27, and Inbar Shachar registered 5. Eliel Salva Torres had the team-high in service aces with 3, and Griffin Wheatley led the night in digs with 7.

In the IVA, Gentry is leading in hitting percentage with 0.582, leading in blocks per set with 1.095 blocks per set, 4th in aces per set with 0.333, and 8th in points per set with 3.54. Luers is second in the IVA in assists per set with 9.93, and 6th in digs per set with 1.98. Axel van Baars is 7th in the IVA in hitting percentage with 0.275. Salva Torres is 3rd in the IVA in blocks per set with 1.000.

Nationally, Gentry is leading the nation in hitting percentage with 0.582 and 14th in blocks per set with 1.095. Luers is 16th in the nation in assists per set with 9.93.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial is 9th in the nation in digs per set with 9.79, 4th in the nation in match W-L percentage with 0.909, and 5th in the nation in opponent hitting percentage with 0.175.

Fort Valley is coming off of a 3-0 win against Catawba.

The Railsplitters are currently on a 3-game winning streak with a record of 10-1 and 1st in the IVA standings. In the most recent AVCA National Collegitate Men's Volleyball Poll that was released February 18, Lincoln Memorial was ranked #18. FVSU is in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Confernence, and their overall record is 4-7, and they have not started conference play.

The match is set to start at 6 pm in Mary Mars Gymnasium.
