Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial Softball snagged two wins in their doubleheader against Ursuline today. The tally of the two run-rule victories would result in a 25-0 advantage over the Arrows.
LMU would start the game with an electric 8-6-2-5 double-play at the top of the first to keep the Arrows scoreless. The momentum would continue to the bottom half of the inning, with
Reese Vivrette getting the lead-off single for the Railsplitters.
Anna Kate Reichter would move her to second on the sacrifice bunt in the next at-bat.
Hanna Bogoski would be the one to score her, knocking a stand-up double to left to help take the 1-0 lead.
Hannah McMeen would keep the momentum going, sending a triple over the center fielder and giving LMU another run.
Halle Grace Patton would do her job, striking out two in the top of the second and bringing the Splitters back up to the plate.
Alyssa Williams would lead things off, giving LMU their fourth hit of the contest and advancing to second on an error by the shortstop to reach
Ryan Williams also.
Gracie Palmer would beat out the throw on her sacrifice bunt, giving Vivrette a bases-loaded situation. Another mistake from the infield would score Williams, giving Reichter the same situation with another run on the board. She would draw the walk, extending the lead to four as
Kristin Griffin would return to the plate, hitting a sacrifice fly to score Palmer. Bogoski's double off the wall would tack on another, making the score 6-0 after two innings.Â
Brianna Baer would start the bottom of the third with a walk, giving LMU their third inning with the lead-off hitter reaching base. She'd advance to second thanks to a
Ryan Williams single off the wall. Vivrette would score them both with an RBI single, giving the Splitters an eight-run gap. That would stay the advantage, as LMU would close the game out in a five-inning run rule.
Halle Grace Patton moves to 9-1 on the year, throwing her eighth complete game and third shutout.Â
Ursuline would find their bats in game two, getting two hits in the top of the first but leaving both on base thanks to a strikeout from LMU's starter,
Jasmine Kaylor. Two would be left on base for the Arrows in the second as well and LMU would struggle to find a run, keeping the game scoreless through two innings. Back-to-back singles from Palmer and Vivrette would give the team some life in the bottom of the third. A mistake from the third baseman would give the Splitters a bases-loaded situation. Bogoski would be the one to break the tie, hitting a two-RBI single and giving the Splitters the lead. A walk to McMeen would load the bases back up later in the inning, opening the opportunity for
Nicole Couvertiere to get a two-RBI base hit of her own. Contact from
Ryan Williams and Vivrette would tack on two more, each, giving LMU eight runs of insurance.Â
Everyone would get a part in the bottom of the fourth, LMU tacking on five runs before the first out of the inning. Bogoski, McMeen, Couvertiere,
Skylar Jacob,
Ryan Williams, Palmer, and
Ashlynn Watkins would all have their part in that span by getting on base either via hit or miscues in the circle. Three more would be added, extending the lead to 17-0 and forcing the Arrows into an impossible comeback. They would come up empty, giving Kaylor the complete game victory in the circle and moving to 2-2 on the season.
The Splitters improve to 10-4 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, February 26th, for a 2 PM/4 PM doubleheader against Lee in Cleveland, TN.
