11th-ranked men's basketball hosts Carson-Newman Wednesday seeking regular season sweep

Harrogate, TN - Four days after defeating Coker on the road 87-79, the 11th-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team will be back on its home floor Wednesday night, playing host to the Carson-Newman Eagles, seeking a regular season sweep after defeating Carson-Newman 89-80 earlier this season in Jefferson City. The Railsplitters and Eagles were picked to split the conference in preseason polls. Lincoln Memorial sits atop the South Atlantic Conference standings with an overall record of 21-4 with a 19-3 mark in conference play. Carson-Newman sits in third in conference standings with an overall record of 20-8, with a 15-7 mark in conference play.

When the Eagles and Railsplitters met in early January, Lincoln Memorial got the best of Carson-Newman on the road, claiming an 89-80 victory in Jefferson City. Elyjah Freeman erupted for 36 points and 11 rebounds en route to being named National Player of the Week by the NABC. Connor Jordan added 13 points in the winning effort. Thomas Allard and Wes Enis added 12 and 10 points respectively, seeing four Railsplitters finish in double figures. Lincoln Memorila shot a blistering 53.2% from the floor, including a 53.4% mark from long range.

Enis, who averages 20.1 points-per-game and 4.6 rebounds-per-game, leads Lincoln Memorial in scoring. He is the second leading scorer in the conference. He is followed in scoring by Freeman with 17.2 points-per-game and 8.4 rebounds-per-game. He is the fourth-best rebounder in the conference statistically, trailing the conference leader by 1.4 rebounds per game. Freeman is the highest scoring and rebounding freshman in the conference, coming in at eighth in the conference in scoring and fourth in rebounding. EJ Smith continues to dictate the pace of the offense, averaging 10 points-per-game. Jordan Walters is on the cusp of double figures, averaging 8.9 points-per-game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and a team-leading 3.2 assists-per-game.

The Railsplitters are currently fourth in the nation in field goal percentage, 16th in three point field goal percentage, and fourth nationally in offensive efficiency. Lincoln Memorial is ranked first in the conference in fast break points, defensive field goal percentage, free throws made per game, scoring defense, and scoring margin. Walters is 12th nationally and first in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio. Freeman is 20th nationally, and second in the conference, with 10 double-doubles on the season. He is also 25th nationally in field goal percentage. Enis is 38th in the nation in scoring and 17th in the nation in three point field goal percentage, shooting nearly 44% from long range.

Tip-off between the Railsplitters and Eagles is slated for 7:30 PM on Wednesday in Tex Turner Arena.
