Albertville, AL- Lincoln Memorial wrapped up its time at the Charger Chillout with two more wins on Sunday: over Christian Brothers 4-0 and over Montevallo 4-1.
Lincoln Memorial would show a scoring threat early, with walks to
Anna Kate Reichter and
Jordann Reagan followed by a fielder's choice from
Hannah McMeen loading the bases. They'd come up empty in the frame and continue to add base runners but not score them, leaving the game scoreless through three. Lincoln Memorial would find themselves in the opposite situation with the bases loaded and no outs, however, in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout all by
Halle Grace Patton in the circle would get them out of the inning and fire up the Splitters going into the bottom half of the frame.
Brianna Baer would draw a walk and score a couple of batters later thanks to contact from
Gracie Palmer and errors from the Bucs scoring them both and putting two up on the board.
Ryan Williams would draw a walk followed by
Anna Kate Reichter's single and another walk issued to Reagan, giving LMU another bases-loaded situation. McMeen and
Nicole Couvertiere would both earn an RBI to put two more up on the board via a single up the middle and a drawn walk, respectively. The four spot would be the only bit of offense for either side for the rest of the game, making 4-0 the final score.
The second game against Montevallo would go similarly, with both teams struggling to find any offense early in the contest. LMU's
Jasmine Kaylor would get the start in this one, taking Montevallo three up, three down in each of the first three innings. Lincoln Memorial would continue to strand runners until the top of the fifth, where
Gracie Palmer would reach by on a fielder's choice and later steal second, eventually scoring on an RBI single to center by Reichter. The Falcons would answer from a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the fifth but it wouldn't last long as LMU would step back up to the plate in the next half-inning, thanks to a McMeen triple and score. Patton would come back in for relief in the sixth and hold any comeback at bay. A Palmer single, Williams walk, and another Reichter base hit would score another in the top of the seventh, extending the lead. An error would load the bases again and a wild pitch would score Williams, making the gap 4-1 in favor of the Splitters. Patton would step back into the circle to earn her, and the team's, second win of the day.Â
The pair of victories moves LMU to 6-3 on the season, going 3-2 in the weekend's games. They'll return to action on Wednesday, February 12th, for a home doubleheader against Lander starting at 1 PM.
