Men's Lacrosse Falls To Mars Hill In Overtime

Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team falls to the Mars Hill Lions in a close overtime battle 13-14.

Mars Hill was the first to score in the match, with McCallion netting the first goal with 13:44 remaining in the first quarter. The Railsplitters would then tie up the match and also take the lead, with Jenson Jones scoring his first goal of the game with 7:46 remaining, Ashton Wilson adding one less than a minute later with 6:19 remaining, and Jacob Scholz recording a goal with 5:20 remaining, all unassisted. The Lions would have the final say in the first as they add 2 more goals: Arendt with 4:08 remaining, and Woodard (Ross) with 0:05 remaining. The score going into the second quarter was tied with 3 goals each.

The Railsplitters would be the first to score in the second, with Brock Saunders posting his first goal of the match with 13:20 remaining. Mars Hill would retake the lead by adding 3 more goals: Hokenson (Ross) with 8:53 remaining, Arendt (Hecht) with 5:26 remaining, and Woodard with 2:53 remaining. LMU would tie the match up again with Gavin Reid tallying his first goal with Rhodes Conroy earning the assist with 1:04 remaining, and Conroy netting in a goal of his own with 0:21 remaining, making the score going into halftime 6-6.

LMU would have the first say in the third quarter, with Jones getting his second and third goal of the match, with him scoring with 13:20 remaining unassisted and another one with 9:07 remaining with Reid getting the assist. The late goal from Mars Hill would force the match to go into overtime tied at 13-13.

Overtime would end quickly, as Mars Hill's Ross scored less than a minute into the overtime period with 3:26 remaining to give the Lions the win 14-13.

Connor Fitzgibbon would earn himself 15 saves.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial would post 41 shots, with 25 on goal, 25/26 clears, 33 ground balls, and 13 face offs.

With the loss, the Railsplitters move to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
