Women's Basketball Falls To Carson-Newman In SAC Quarterfinals

Rock Hill, SC – The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team falls to #2 seed Carson-Newman in the SAC Tournament Quarterfinals Tuesday evening 60-75.

The first quarter was a battle, as Lincoln Memorial trailed in the earlier half of the quarter but caught up because of their 55.6% three-point percentage, but Carson-Newman outscored the Lady Railsplitters 20-21 because of a last second three-pointer from the Eagles. In the second quarter, LMU struggled more offensively, as Lincoln Memorial only scored 13 points compared to C-N's 20, making the score 33-40 going into halftime. In the first half, the Lady Railsplitters went 11/25 from the field, 6/15 from behind the arch, and 5/8 from the free-throw line.

The third quarter was much like the second, with Lincoln Memorial only posting 10 points and Carson-Newman more than doubling that with 22. The fourth was a low scoring quarter for Carson-Newman as LMU registers 17 points and the Eagles adding 12. Despite the Lady Railsplitters outscoring Carson-Newman in the fourth, the Eagles put themselves in a large enough lead in the third to secure the win.

Three Lady Railspitters scored double digits: Kamil Collier with team-high 17 points and 8 rebounds; Alexa Smiddy with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, and Jamyah Winter with 11 points. Matty Tanner and Asia Barr both finished the game with 6 points each, with Barr getting 3 assists and Tanner posting 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Caroline Sikkink and Dominique Rodriguez finished out the scoring with 4 and 3 points, respectively.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 38% from the field, 10/25 from behind the arch, and 77% from the charity stripe. They posted 20 points off of Eagle turnovers, 24 rebounds, 8 second chance points, 14 bench points, 18 points in the paint, 6 steals, and 12 assists.

The loss knocks LMU out of the SAC tournament and ends their 2024-2025 season. The Lady Railsplitters finish the season with a 13-15 overall record and a 12-12  conference record.
