Harrogate, TN- LMU Softball split their road series with Limestone today, taking the first game 4-2 before falling 2-12 in the second.
Neither team would find a rhythm through the first few innings. The first hit of the day would come in the top of the second when LMU's
Nicole Couvertiere got aboard on an infield single.
Alyssa Williams would do the same thing in the next at-bat, giving LMU their second baserunner of the day. Both would be left stranded, however, keeping the contest scoreless. Another hit from Couvertiere in the top of the fourth would also come up empty as the pitchers would battle it out in the circle. Limestone would score first, crossing one in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of hits followed by a fielder's choice. Lincoln Memorial would be quick to respond,
Kristin Griffin finding one she liked and hitting the home run to even it up at 1-1.Â
The Saints would earn back-to-back singles in the bottom of the sixth, following it with a sacrifice fly to retake the advantage, 2-1. Lincoln Memorial would find themselves forced to score to extend the game. Couvertiere would find her way on base yet again, this time drawing a walk and then advancing to second from contact by Williams. Couvertiere would make her way to third on a single from
Brianna Baer,
Gracie Palmer stepping in and taking the hit-by-pitch to load the bases and turn over the lineup. Anna Kate Reicther's contact to shortstop would score Couvertiere, making it even at 2-2. Griffin would be the hero again, stepping in and hitting a two-RBI double to score Palmer and Baer, giving LMU the 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the frame. A three-up, three-down sequence would keep the score there, giving LMU and
Halle Grace Patton another win on their season. The victory makes Patton just the ninth pitcher in LMU history to tally 20 wins in a season.
Game two would see Limestone find their bats, a grand slam in the first giving the Saints a four-run lead. The top of the second would see
Jordann Reagan single to start the inning,
Hannah McMeen homering to bring them both around, making the score 2-4. LU would tack on another in the bottom part of the frame, finding another two more home runs in the third to make it 2-12 in favor of the Saints. Neither team would score in the fourth, forcing Lincoln Memorial into another score to extend it situation. The rally would come up short, giving Limestone the game two win.
The split takes Limestone to 14-24 (9-15) while Lincoln Memorial moves to 29-16 (13-9). The Splitters will return home for their last regular season series against Wingate on Friday, April 18th, for a 1 PM/3 PM doubleheader.
