St Louis, MO - The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team defeats the Thomas More Saints Friday afternoon 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-20) to advance to the IVA Semifinals Saturday morning.
The Railsplitters dominated the first set from the very start, as they pieced together a 9-2 run right from the beginning. With the help from Thomas More's lowest attack percentage of -0.222, LMU took the set one win 25-14. The second set was mostly back and forth except for the beginning of the set where Lincoln Memorial rallied a 6-2 run and posted a match-high 13 kills, which as a result gave the Railsplitters the win for set two 25-19. The third set was the closet set of the match, as there was 12 ties and 4 lead changes throughout the set. Despite that, LMU took the win for set three 25-20 to give them the match sweep 3-0.
Matthew Gentry led the team in kills with 8 for a .385 attack percentage, and
John Luers was the team-leader once again in assists with 30.
Johan Negron and Luers had 1 service ace each for the Railsplitters. Defensively,
Eliel Salva Torres led the team in blocks with 4 block assists, and
Tate Colebaugh was the team-leader in digs with 11.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial had a .300 attack percentage in the first set, .171 in the second, and .240 in the third for a match attack percentage of .221. LMU also recorded 42 points, 33 kills, 2 service aces, 7 blocks, 32 assists, and 39 digs.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 22-1 on the season.
Lincoln Memorial will advance to the IVA semifinals, which will be against (5) Rockhurst tomorrow, April 19th at 11 am ET.
