Luers Named To All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP As Men's Volleyball Wins 7th Consecutive IVA Championship

St. Louis, MO - The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team secured their 7th consecutive IVA Tournament Championship as they defeat the Maryville Saints Saturday evening 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19). 

Lincoln Memorial had their best set in set one, as they posted 16 kills and 0 errors for an attack percentage of .516, giving the Railsplitters the win for set one 25-23. Set two was LMU's only loss as Maryville recorded an 8-3 run in the beginning of the set to give the Saints the set two win 19-25. The third set was Maryville's worst set performance, as they had 12 kills and 8 errors for a match-low .121 attack percentage; that ultimately allowed LMU to get the win for set three 25-20. Lincoln Memorial pieced together a match-high 17 kills to give them the set four win 25-19, giving the Railsplitters the match 3-1 win to reclaim their name as the 2025 IVA Tournament Champions. 

Johan Negron led the team in kills with 15 for a .371 attack percentage, and John Luers tallied a career-high 50 assists on the evening. Griffin Wheatley and Negron had one service ace each. Defensively, Matthew Gentry was the team-leader in blocks with 4 block assists and Tate Colebaugh led the team in digs with 14. 

As a team, LMU posted a .516 attack percentage in the first, .188 in the second, .314 in the third, and .424 in the fourth for a match attack percentage of .359. Lincoln Memorial posted 66.5 points, 57 kills, 2 aces, 7 blocks, 55 assists, and 46 digs. 

Luers was named to the IVA All-Tournament Team and was named the Tournament MVP. 

With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 24-1 on the season. 

They will now wait to see if they make the NCAA Tournament.
