Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial Men's Tennis team played against their rivals Carson Newman University this afternoon. The Railsplitters came out on top beating the Eagles 4-1. This win would be the first win over Carson-Newman in three years.
Starting off the doubles strong was Ethan Hirons and Radu Florea at No. 3 doubles. The pairing quickly took care of business defeating their opponents 6-1. At No. 1 doubles was Alexandru Giurea and Hugo Ruiz Espejo who fell to their opponent 3-6. Harper Mills and Sergio Boneta Aranzeta were at No. 2 doubles, and they would have put up a good effort but lost 6-7 (4).
Getting the first point for the Railsplitter was Alexandru Giurea, at No. 2 singles. Giurea dominated his opponent and was off the court quickly, winning 6-2, 6-2. The next Railsplitter to take down the Eagles was Radu Florea at No. 1 singles. Florea went neck and neck with his opponent in the first set and came out on top 7-6 (3), and then he kicked into high gear and won the second set 6-2. At No. 4 singles was Harper Mills, who also had a close first set. Mill would take his opponent 7-6 (5), 6-4. The final match to close the day was Ethan Hirons at No. 6 singles. Hirons would win 6-2, 7-5 (4).
No. 3 singles Kai Miyatake and No. 5 singles Franco Battaglino would have their match go unfinished.
The men will play again on April 5th against Limestone University. This match will be held in Gaffney, SC.
