Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial won game one of the series in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship over Anderson, 4-0.
LMU would be the first on the board,
Anna Kate Reichter starting things off in the bottom of the first with a single to the shortstop. A sacrifice bunt from
Kristin Griffin would advance Reichter to second, eventually reaching third on a wild pitch in the following at-bat. A walk issued to
Hanna Bogoski would give LMU two on. Bogoski would steal second,
Jordann Reagan drawing a walk to load the bases and bring up
Hannah McMeen. She'd earn the base hit, singling up the middle to score two and give the Splitters the early lead. Anderson's first hit of the day would be a double in the top of the third, but the Trojans would leave the runner stranded and keep the game at 2-0.Â
Both squads would go scoreless in the fourth; another three-up, three-down top of the fifth taking it to the bottom half of the frame. Griffin would lead things off with a triple to the right-center wall, scoring on a sacrifice fly from Reagan later in the inning. A single from McMeen would put the Splitters on the base path, allowing her to steal second soon after.
Nicole Couvertiere's single would help McMeen round third and score, making it a 4-0 lead for LMU. Lincoln Memorial's defense would take care of business, holding the Trojans to a zero spot and taking game one of the series. SAC Pitcher of the Year
Halle Grace Patton earns the complete game victory, making it her 22nd of the year and her eighth shutout.
Game two will take place tomorrow, April 27th, starting at 1 PM in Harrogate with the as-needed game three taking place 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first.
