Dahlonega, GA- LMU Softball's season ended today, falling to Tusculum in the elimination game of the NCAA Southeast Regional #2.Â
Neither team would see anything come of the first, each going three-up-three-down. A hit, walk, and hit sequence by Tusculum would plate the first run of the game, making it 0-1 for TU.
Hannah McMeen would earn the first hit for LMU, singling to right center. She would be left stranded, however, and keep the Splitters scoreless. The team would threaten again in the bottom of the third,
Anna Kate Reichter singling to left center and
Kristin Griffin earning a walk to make it first and second. The team would leave both on, leaving two on again in the bottom of the fourth after walks drawn from
Jordann Reagan and
Alyssa Williams.Â
The defense would stay strong, keeping TU at bay as the Splitters would see another chance from walks issued to Reichter and Griffin in the bottom of the fifth to add another in scoring position. Again, LMU would stay scoreless, moving to the sixth and growing a sense of urgency. Another three would be retired from TU's lineup, keeping the difference at one going into the bottom of the sixth.
Nicole Couvertiere would send one back up the middle for a base hit to lead off the half-inning, moving to second after Williams drew a walk in the following at-bat.
Gracie Palmer would earn a single on contact to left field, loading the bases with two outs. The Pioneers would manage to get the last out of the inning, however, forcing LMU into a tough spot in the seventh. The defense would do its job, another three-up, three-down, taking it to the wire in the bottom part of the inning.Â
Kristin Griffin would lead off the bottom of the seventh, drawing a five-pitch walk to get aboard. Bogoski would lay down a sacrifice bunt to advance her to second and bring up Reagan. She would ground out, but it would be enough to move Griffin to third. McMeen would step in and get down to her last strike, sending one into deep left and finding space to score Griffin, tying it up 1-1 and forcing extra innings.Â
A pair of hits for TU would give them runners, taking advantage to advance to scoring position on some small ball and crossing a run on a ground out to put the Pioneers back ahead. Another hit would cross one more, making it 1-3 and forcing LMU to try and come from behind in the eighth as well.Â
Lincoln Memorial finishes the season 34-20 and will return to action next spring for the 2026 season.Â
