ST. AUGUSTINE, FL - The Lincoln Memorial Men's Tennis team finished their last match of the season. The Railsplitters played in the 2025 NCAA DII Men's Tennis Championship, which was their first appearance since 2013. The men played against Columbus State University. The Splitters fought until the very end but fell to the Cougars 1-4.
Coming off first was Alexandru Giurea and Hugo Ruiz Espejo at No. 1 doubles. The pairing fought hard but fell 1-6. At No. 3 doubles Ethan Hirons and Radu Florea played a phenomenal match and took care of business, winning 6-3. Coming down to No. 2 doubles, Harper Mills and Sergio Boneta Aranzeta would clinch the doubles point. The pairing went close with their opponents and came back from being 4-5 down, finishing with a 7-5 win.
Finishing first was Alexandru Giurea at No. 2 singles. Giurea put up a fight but fell 2-6, 3-6. At No. 6 singles was Ethan Hirons who also put up a valiant effort. Hirons fell to the Cougars 4-6, 3-6. Railsplitters, Harper Mills played No. 3 singles today and would have a close match taking his opponent three sets. Mills lost the first set 1-6, but bounced back and took the second 6-4. His third set resulted in a score of 2-6. Clinching the match for the day was No.1 singles, Radu Florea. Florea started off hot, winning his first set 6-1, but came up short resulting in a final score of 6-1, 3-6, 0-6.
No. 4 singles Sergio Boneta Aranzeta and No. 5 singles Kai Miyatake would have their matches go unfinished.
The LMU Men's Tennis team have concluded their season and have had a phenomenal season. The team has broken several records this season with ranking the highest ever in school history of 18th in the nation and making the NCAA DII Men's Tennis Championship since 2013. The Railsplitters look to come back stronger next year.
