Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Chargers

Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team falls to the University of Alabama - Huntsville Chargers Sunday afternoon 0-1.

The match built up slowly for both teams, as the first shot attempt of the match wasn't until the 13th minute and 15th minute where UAH fired off a shot, both blocked. the Railsplitters followed that up by getting a shot opportunity of their own as Gian-Carlo Kama took a shot on goal, saved by the UAH goalkeeper. Possession was juggled back-and-forth in the midfield throughout most of the first half, with the last shot attempt was by the Chargers in the 43rd minute, saved by Daniel Benedek Miklosi. With that, the teams go into halftime tied at 0-0.

The first half was very quiet for both teams, as LMU only had one shot and one save in the first.

The second half was more up tempo as LMU's Enrique Martin fired a shot in the 48th minute, off target. The Chargers responded to Lincoln Memorial's momentum as they took the lead in the 52nd minute off of Hewson, assisted by Atoyebi. Alabama-Huntsville built confidence from their goal as their offensive pressure was more prominent, as shots were fired in the 53rd and 55th minute, high and blocked respectively. Lincoln Memorial was able to make some combinations and keep the ball in their attacking third as they started to apply the pressure on UAH, as Martin took a shot on goal in the 60th minute, saved, Ivan Gomez fired two shots in the 67th minute, both saved, and Thomas Chao taking a chance in the 68th minute with a shot, high. The Railsplitters continued to push offensively, with four shots opportunities were created in the next ten minutes, starting out with Christopher Ramos attempting a shot on goal, saved, in the 71st minute, followed by Thomas Sloerdal taking  shot off target in the 72nd. LMU attempted to equalize the score with Colin Clark trying to get the ball in the back of the net in the 74th minute and Ronan O'Mahony Blondel taking a shot in the 79th minute, both saved. Three more shots were taken throughout the remainder of the half by LMU: one by Clark in the 86 minute, wide, one by Kama in the 88th minute, high, and one by Martin in the 89th minute, wide. Despite the many attempts to add a goal on the scoreboard, the Railsplitters fell to UAH 0-1.

Martin was the team-leader in shots with three, while Kama, Clark, and Gomez led in shots on goal with two each. Benedek Miklosi played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save on the afternoon.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial registered six shots, with two being on goal, one save, and four corner kicks.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial drops to 1-3 overall and Alabama-Huntsville moves to 3-0-1 overall.

They will have their next matchup on Saturday, September 20th as they play their second SAC opponent Catawba in Salisbury, NC at 1 pm.
