Women's Soccer Falls To #11 Catawba

Salisbury, NC – The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team falls to the #11 Catawba Indians Saturday evening 0-3.

Possession was juggled back-and-forth for the first 15 minutes as each team fired of a pair of shots: First a blocked shot in the 2nd minute and a saved shot in the 5th from Catawba, then a saved shot from Ellie Snyder in the 13th and a shot off-target from Paige Branam in the 15th.

The Catawba Indians scored back to back goals in the 15th minute by Morin and the 16th minute by Delair, both off of penalty kicks, to give Catawba the advantage 2-0.

The Railsplitters responded back to Catawba's quick goal scoring by producing more shot attempts in the 19th and 21st minute by Branam and Edie Wilds, high and blocked respectively.

Catawba rushed offensively for the next 12 minutes as seven shots were fired off: three saved by Cooke, three blocked, and one high. The remainder of the half was scoreless, so the two teams entered halftime with Catawba in the lead 0-2.

The first ten minutes of the second half were quiet, besides one shot from Branam which is blocked. Five minutes later in the 55th minute, Catawba extended the lead to three as Ibanez Claret scored off of Peterson. Immediately after, the Catawba Indians produced another shot, but it was saved by Cooke.

Lincoln Memorial was able to create a couple of scoring opportunities for the next ten minutes from Jade Brown and Sophia Berglund, but were off-target.

LMU got some shots on goal as Snyder fired off two shots in the 69th and 70th minute and Brown in the 72nd minute, all three saved by the Catawba goalkeeper.

From the 79th minute to the 90th minute, the Railsplitters had ten chances at goal, including shots from Viktoria Filsner and Riley Miller that hit the crossbar, but LMU was still scoreless at the end of the match 0-3.

With the spirt of shot attempts at the end of the match, Lincoln Memorial outshot Catawba 20-17, but Catawba had more shots on goal with nine compared to LMU's seven. Each team had eight corner kick opportunities.

Snyder led in shots and shots on goal with four each, and Cooke earned herself six saves.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moves to 2-3-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play, and Catawba moves to undefeated at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

LMU's next match will be their home opener on Wednesday, September 24th at 5 pm against Converse at LMU Lacrosse Complex.
