COLUMBUS, OH – Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball heads to the Covelli Center this weekend for a nationally ranked test at No. 13 Ohio State on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. The series was originally scheduled as a two-match set, but Saturday's match (Jan. 24) has been canceled due to anticipated weather conditions, leaving a single match on the weekend slate.
The Railsplitters enter the trip with a 3–1 start and have been strong on both sides of the ball through four matches. As a team, LMU is hitting .344 with 13.1 kills per set, while holding opponents to just .115. The Railsplitters have also averaged 9.8 digs per set, and they've been productive at the net with 2.0 blocks per set. Offensively, Johan Negron has led the way with 38 kills, while Axel van Baars has been highly efficient early, hitting .565 with 30 kills. Roman Mahlerwein has paced the offense with 111 assists, and defensively, Zachary Zian and Mahlerwein both sit at 25 digs apiece so far this season.
Ohio State comes in 3–1 and remains No. 13 in the AVCA preseason poll, closing out a five-match homestand to open its season. The Buckeyes are coming off a week that included a win over George Mason and a four-set loss to Long Beach State. Historically, LMU is still searching for its first win against Ohio State, as the Buckeyes hold a 4–0 edge in the series, with all four matchups played in Columbus.
