Emory, VA -- Lincoln Memorial men's basketball traveled to Emory, Virginia on Wednesday and came away with a 77-68 victory over the Emory & Henry Wasps. The Railsplitters improved to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in conference play, while the Wasps fell to 11-8 overall and 6-7 in league action. Lincoln Memorial also completed the season sweep after defeating Emory and Henry 89-60 earlier this year.
The Railsplitters controlled much of the game by forcing turnovers and capitalizing on mistakes, finishing with 21 points off 18 turnovers compared to just four points off turnovers for Emory & Henry. Lincoln Memorial shot 47.3 percent from the field and knocked down seven three-pointers, while holding the Wasps to 25 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Railsplitters also recorded 11 steals and committed only 10 turnovers, helping maintain momentum throughout the contest.
Nate Mims led all scorers with 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range, adding six rebounds and three assists. Jayden Spearman and Armon Jarrard each added 12 points, with Spearman contributing five assists and Jarrard hitting two three-pointers while going 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Walter Campbell chipped in 10 points and four rebounds, while Amhad Jarrard scored nine points and Ashton Pennamon added seven. Emmanuel James provided two points and five rebounds, and EJ Smith contributed three assists off the bench.
Lincoln Memorial found success attacking the basket, scoring 32 points in the paint and collecting 12 offensive rebounds that led to 11 second-chance points. The Railsplitters bench also outscored the Wasps 14-11, and the defense continued to apply pressure with active hands and strong on-ball play.
The Railsplitters are slated to be back in action on Saturday at home against Catawba.
