Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial University Men's Lacrosse's Tristan Krieger and Softball's Alyssa Maples have been named the Gap Creek Coffee House Impact Student Athletes of the Month for October.
The award is given to student athletes who have embodied the spirit of the student impact group, dedicating their time to help improve their campus community while making a positive impact on their fellow students.
A Sophomore from Bloomington, Indiana, Krieger has earned the Male Impact Student Athlete Award for his work this past summer, as Krieger traveled to Israel on a community service trip. While there, the elementary education major was connected with a Kibbutz, a communal village where property, labor, and resources are shared within the community. Kreiger spent his time teaching lacrosse to different communities around Israel. He would also get connected with the coach of the professional Tel Aviv GoldStar lacrosse team. As a member of the GoldStars, Kreiger traveled to Utica, New York to take part in the North American Invitational, where he tallied an assist and helped the GoldStars go 2-3 in the worlds largest indoor box lacrosse tournament.
With the Railsplitters, Kreiger played 21 minutes in net against Emory & Henry earning three saves as part of the Splitters 15-9 win in his first taste of collegiate action. Kreiger has also been a standout in the classroom, earning a place on the Dean's List each semester while at LMU.
The Women's Impact Student Athlete Award goes to Alyssa Maples, a Junior from Knoxville, Tennessee. A business major, Maples earns recognition for her work with the Lincoln Ambassador Team along with Clays for Children. In her work with Clays for Children, Maples and her teammates help raise money for local school districts in East Tennessee while assisting in support for the Children's Center of the Cumberlands. As a Lincoln Ambassador, Maples helps new and incoming students get adjusted to campus life at Lincoln Memorial, setting up events for new students and assisting with Welcome Weekend activates, along with planning Homecoming week events including the yearly concert.
On the field, Maples had a breakout Sophomore season, with a team-third best six home runs and 18 walks, while her .256 batting average and .500 slugging percentage helped lead a Railsplitters team that captured the South Atlantic Conference championship. In the classroom, Maples played a key role in the Splitters having the top team GPA across all Division II softball, as the team finished with a combined 3.853 GPA.
The impact group seeks to promote, encourage, and celebrate the individual while embodying the unique differences within the athletic department in an effort to foster a culture of appreciation and acknowledgment.
