Emory, VA -- The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team traveled to face Emory & Henry Tuesday night, successfully securing a regular season sweep of the Wasps following a dominant 3-0 victory. The win capped off a commanding performance that echoed their previous success against Emory & Henry on September 19 at home.
In the opening frame, the Railsplitters initially experienced a sluggish start as the Wasps raced out to a commanding 10-4 lead. However, a remarkable 14-point run sparked by Finley Sparks—who served 15 consecutive times during the sequence—completely shifted the momentum and allowed Lincoln Memorial to seize an 18-10 advantage. Capitalizing on that explosive turnaround, the Railsplitters caught fire offensively to close out the opening frame, hitting an impressive .462 percentage with just two service errors and two attacking errors while tallying 14 kills. Kaytlin Johnson paced the attack with six kills in the frame while individually hitting .462, and Georgia Dobson added three kills and two digs with a .400 hitting percentage, all expertly orchestrated by Lauren Pickett's 14 assists.
Carrying that energy into the second set, Lincoln Memorial burst out to a much faster 7-2 lead, though timely defense and a handful of Railsplitter miscues allowed the Wasps to battle back within a single point at 19-18 late in the frame. Undeterred, the visitors locked in for the crucial stretch, overcoming five set errors with steady defensive poise to claim a 25-21 victory and preserve their bid for the match sweep. Emory & Henry continued to fight hard in the third set, staying within striking distance at 11-9 during the first half of the frame. Yet, the Railsplitters steadily pulled away as the score swelled to 18-11 in favor of the visitors. Lincoln Memorial went on to finish the match in style with a 25-16 set victory in the third frame, completing the match and regular season sweep of Emory & Henry with poise and authority from start to finish.
