Harrogate, TN – In their first match of the weekend, the Lincoln Memorial Women's Tennis team netted a clean sweep win over Johnson University, as the Railsplitters downed the Royals 7-0 at home. The win moved the Splitters to 2-0.
The Railsplitters dropped just one point in doubles competition, with the first pairing of Mia Rodriguez and Alexandra Ortiz along with the third pairing of Maria Villanueva and Laura Nastrini both earning 6-0 wins. The second pairing of Carla Ramonet and Rosalie Carrier-Dulac won their match 6-1 over the Royals.
In singles play, Ramonet set the tone in the first position, defeating her opponent 6-2 and 6-3 to put LMU ahead 2-0. Nastrini followed suit in the second singles pairing, winning 6-2 and 6-0 in the second set for the sweep of her opponent.
Lucie Palud would also drop just two points to her opponent in the third singles position, winning 6-1 in both sets for the win and securing LMU the four points needed for a win.
Mar Garcia Bucosa faced a back-and-forth fight in the fourth match, as after taking the first set 6-2, her opponent battled back to take set two 6-4. The tie-breaking set would see Garcia Bucosa pull away, finishing off a 10-3 tiebreaker win for the match point and a win.
The Splitters finished off their win in dominant fashion, as Reagan Clay-Booth and Villanueva took wins in two sets in the five and six singles position respectively, as LMU polished off the 7-0 victory.
The Railsplitters are back in action tomorrow, hosting Young Harris at 4:00 p.m.
