Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse defeat the Malone Pioneers Saturday afternoon 22-5.
The Railsplitters started the game with a 4-0 scoring run, beginning with
Gavin Reid with 9:36 remaining assisted from
Lucas Barsauskas, followed by Reid getting is second goal with 9:11 remaining.
Shane Psaltis then added a goal of his own with 7:01 remaining, and nearly two minutes later
Koen Burdette registered his first goal of the game with 5:11 remaining with
Jenson Jones earning the assist. Malone responded to eliminate the shut out with 1:02 remaining and nine seconds remaining to make the score at the end of quarter one.
The second quarter was much like the first, with
Jacob Scholz tallying his first goal of the match unassisted with 10:16 remaining, followed by
Domenico Moscato doing the same with 8:11 remaining.
Alex Wegrzyn added his name to the score sheet as he registered his first goal with 7:27 remaining. The Pioneers added their lone goal of the quarter with 5:59 remaining, and LMU added two more before the end of the second. Reid was the first with 5:50 remaining, then Wegrzyn followed, assisted by Jones, with 2:16 remaining. Lincoln Memorial went into halftime with the 9-3 advantage.
The Railsplitters got things going quickly in the third frame, as Reid scored back-to-back goals, with the first at 14:11 remaining, assisted by
Beckett O'Shea, and the second with 11:53 remaining, unassisted. Malone added one more goal in the third with 11:07 remaining. Lincoln Memorial then went on a 5-goal run: Jones with 10:16 remaining, Wegrzyn with 2:47 remaining, Scholz (assisted by
Shane Psaltis) with 1:36 remaining, Cooper Grandados (assisted by Psaltis) with 0:28 remaining, and Reid (assisted by Psaltis) with 0:04 remaining to make the score 16-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Similar to the first three quarters, LMU started scoring quickly as Barsauskas registered a goal with 13:36 remaining, followed by
Murdoch Bech scoring his first goal with 13:14 remaining.
Dakota Ayres tallied a goal with 12:10 remaining, then Moscato registered one with 10:32 remaining. The Pioneers finally responded with 7:21 remaining. Lincoln Memorial solidified their win with two more goals, with the first by Scholz with 3:30 remaining and the second by
Scott Triolo with 0:38 remaining to make the final score 22-5 with the Railsplitters earning the win.
Reid led in points with six for six goals, and Psaltis followed with four points for three assists and one goal. Wegrzyn (3 goals), Scholz (3 goals) and Jones (1 goal, 2 assists) all had three points. Domenico (2 goals) and Barsauskas (1 goal, 1 assist) both finished with two points. Triolo, Granados, Ayres, Burdette, and Bech finished with one goal and O'Shea finished with one assist.
Reid led in shots with 11, shots on goal with eight, ground balls with nine, and caused turnovers with three.
Brixten McKenzie led in won face offs with 11.
Jayden Herman and
Connor Fitzgibbon both had time in goal, with Herman recording six saves and Fitzgibbon had two.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 71 shots, with 43 being on goal, 21 successful clears, and 21 won face offs.
The team's next game will be at home as they face conference opponent Tusculum on March 4
th at 4 pm.
