Anderson, S.C. - The Railsplitters Men's Tennis teams undefeated start stretched into conference play on Saturday, moving to 6-0 with a 4-1 win over Anderson to start 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Splitters started hot against Anderson, sweeping doubles play to take the first point of the match. The first pairing of Sergio Sebastian Aranzeta Boneta and Victor Bourguignon would win their fourth match of the season, taking a 6-4 win over the first pairing from the Trojans.
Mathis Amsellem and Alexandru Rares Giurea would lock up the doubles point with a 7-5 win out of the third pair. The Railsplitters jumped out to a 4-0 lead before having to fend off an Anderson comeback, eventually climbing back and locking up a 1-0 Lincoln Memorial lead.
In singles competition, Lincoln Memorial secured a major win in the fourth pairing from Radu Florea, with the junior jumping out to a 6-1 win in the first set before trading points early in set two. Florea found his next gear, as after starting tied 2-2, Florea raced ahead to take the set 6-3.
Bourguignon would secure a close contest in the fifth singles pairing, taking two tough sets from Anderson. Bourguignon found himself trading points early in the first set, as neither side held a lead larger than two throughout the start of the match. After falling behind 3-5, Bourguignon would go on a four-point run to secure the first set 7-5. Set two would be a close comeback for Bourguignon, again falling behind 2-4 in the early stages before another four-point run gave the Railsplitters the win with a 6-4 victory.
In the sixth set, Kai Miyatake again locked up a win to start 5-0 in singles play this season, dropping just three total points in his two sets. Miyatake took the first set from his opponent 6-2 after holding a 5-1 lead, before translating a 5-0 lead in set two to a 6-1 victory.
LMU heads to North Georgia tomorrow, as the Railsplitters will face the 11th-ranked Nighthawks on the road at 10:00 a.m.
