Women's Basketball Defeats The Wolves On Senior Day

Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial defeated the Newberry Wolves on Senior Day Saturday afternoon 68-48.

The first quarter Lincoln Memorial came out strong offensively, as the Lady Railsplitters scored 16 points compared to Newberry's 11, while also out rebounding the Wolves 10-6. Alexa Smiddy led the first with six points as she went 2/5 from the three.

The second quarter they applied even more pressure on the offensive side, as they added 23 points and the Wolves registered 17. Alexa Smiddy also was hot from the three this quarter, as she went 3 /4 from beyond the arch, helping LMU go into halftime with the 39-28 advantage.

Quarter three was the Lady Railsplitters lowest scoring quarter, as they only scored 12 points but limited Newberry to only add ten, with Kamil Collier leading with seven points. Lincoln Memorial went into the final frame with the 51-38 lead.

The team increased the momentum back up in the final quarter, as they outscored Newberry 17-4, with six different Lady Railsplitters contributing with points. With that, LMU took the win 68-48 to complete the regular season undefeated at home.

Smiddy led in scoring with 20 points, followed by Lexi Patty following with 16 points. Collier registered her 18th double double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Asia Barr finished with nine points and four rebounds, and Sariya Henry had four points. Keiara Anderson and Rachel Early rounded out the scoring with two points each.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial went 41.7% from the field, 37% from the three, and 8/12 from the charity stripe.

LMU scored 30 points in the paint, 18 points off of Newberry turnovers, nine second chance points, six fast break points, and six bench points.

With the win the Lady Railsplitters improve to 24-3 overall and 19-3 conference play and Newberry drops to 13-16 overall and 7-15 in the SAC.

Lincoln Memorial finishes as the #2 seed going into the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, facing #7 Catawba in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 4th at 2:30 pm.
