Women's Lacrosse Takes The Victory Over The Golden Knights

Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial battled to defeat the Gannon Golden Knights Saturday afternoon 14-13.

 The Railsplitters got things started as they went on a 3-goal scoring run, beginning with Josie Tinnerello with 14:46 remaining, with the assist coming from Ryan Smith. LMU's Izzy Hobday scored next with 11:28 remaining, and Briana Martinez followed with 10:49 remaining, both unassisted. The Golden Knights responded with two goals: with 10:08 remaining and 3:11 remaining. Lincoln Memorial had the last say in the first as they scored the final two goals of the quarter as Martinez scored another goal with 3:32 remaining and Smith tallied another goal with 2:18 remaining to make the score 5-2 at the end of the first.

Lincoln Memorial began the scoring once again in the second as Smith scored with 13:50 remaining, followed by a Gannon goal with 13:11 remaining. Three different Railsplitters then scored, first by Izzy Hobday with 11:33 remaining, followed by Tinnerello with 8:46 remaining. Martinez recorded her goal with 6:54 remaining, with Kailey Hardin tallying the assist. The Golden Knights scored their last goal of the half with 4:22 remaining, and then LMU added their last goal with 1:54 remaining to give Lincoln Memorial the 1-=5 advantage going into halftime.

Gannon began the scoring in the third quarter, as they scored two goals with 14:28 remaining and 13:25 remaining. Lincoln Memorial followed up with two goals of their own, first by Tinnerello with Smith earning the assist with 5:47 remaining, and the second by Copeland with 1:45 remaining, with Smith also getting that assist. The Golden Knights finished the quarter off with a goal with 0:57 remaining, making the score 12-8 with LMU in the lead going into the final frame.

Jessie McKilligan began the scoring in the fourth quarter with 13:05 remaining, and Josie Tinnerello came after her as she scored with 10:49 remaining with Abby Durkin earning the assist. Gannon then came out firing as they went on a 5-gol run to end the game: with 8:48 remaining, 8:14 remaining, 6:34 remaining, 5:10 remaining, and 0:24 remaining. Despite the fourth quarter efforts by the Golden Knights, Lincoln Memorial came out with the victory 14-13.

Smith led in points with five as she scored two goals and three assists. Martinez and Tinnerello followed with four points for four goals, and Izzy Hobday had two points for two goals. Copeland, McKilligan, Hardin, and Durkin rounded out the points with one each as Copeland and McKilligan scored one goal each and Durkin and Hardin tallied one assist.

Martinez led in shots with six, and Martinez and Tinnerello were the team-leaders in shots on goal with five each. Smith led in draw controls with five. Emily Mirabile and Jovie Favati both had time in goal, as Mirabile recorded five saves and Favati tallied nine.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial recorded 26 shots, with 17 being on goal, 14 saves, 11 successful clears, and 11 draw controls.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 4-2 overall and Gannon drops to 1-3 overall.

The team will play their only neutral site match of the season on Thursday, March 5th as they travel to Maryville, TN to face Lee University at 5 pm.
