Baseball falls to Flames on the road

Cleveland, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team suffered a 5-2 setback on the road at Lee University on Tuesday, as the Flames used a four-run first inning to build an early advantage the Railsplitters could not overcome.

Lincoln Memorial collected nine hits in the contest and put runners on base in several innings, but timely hits were limited. The Railsplitters' offense was highlighted by Caleb Jordan, who went 2-for-5 with a double and drove in both LMU runs. Jordan's two-RBI single in the fifth inning brought Lincoln Memorial back within three at 5-2 after the Flames had extended their lead with a run in the fourth.

Gabe Gray turned in a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-4, while Brooks Hagedorn, Brady Morse, Alex Kowalski, Peyton Mullannix, and Ronny Matti each added a hit. Matti and Kevin Fernandez scored the two runs for the Railsplitters, and Mullannix also drew a walk and stole a base. As a team, Lincoln Memorial drew four walks and struck out nine times, leaving nine runners on base.

On the mound, Adrian Smith took the loss after working four innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out two. Lucas Smith provided a solid effort in relief, tossing four scoreless innings and surrendering just two hits with three walks and one strikeout to keep the game within reach.

Defensively, the Railsplitters turned two double plays and recorded 24 putouts, but three errors in the field led to extended innings for Lee. Despite late opportunities, including a pair of walks in the ninth inning, Lincoln Memorial was unable to generate another run as the Flames closed out the victory.
