Softball Comes Up Short at Emory & Henry in SAC Opener

EMORY, VA - Lincoln Memorial softball opened South Atlantic Conference play on the road Tuesday at Emory & Henry, dropping a pair of competitive games to begin the league slate. The Railsplitters fell 4-2 in the opener before a late Emory & Henry surge decided a 7-5 result in game two.

In game one, LMU stayed within striking distance throughout and finished with 10 hits, but Emory & Henry did enough early and held on for the 4-2 win. The Railsplitters consistently put runners on base and pressured the defense, with multiple hitters producing solid at-bats to keep the game tight into the late innings, but the Wasps limited the big inning and made key plays to close it out.

Game two saw Lincoln Memorial put together one of its stronger offensive performances of the early SAC schedule, building a 5-1 lead through five innings behind a balanced attack. Hannah McMeen led the way with a big day at the plate, while Hanna Bogoski and Reese Vivrette also drove in key runs as LMU controlled the game into the sixth. Emory & Henry answered with a decisive rally late, scoring six times in the sixth inning to swing the game and secure the 7-5 final despite the Railsplitters continuing to battle in the seventh.

Lincoln Memorial returns home for its SAC home opener on Saturday, March 14, hosting Carson-Newman for a doubleheader at Dorothy Neely Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
