Harrogate, TN – In their first of two games in two days, the Lincoln Memorial Women's Tennis team picked up their seventh win of the season, defeating Purdue University Northwest on Tuesday 5-2.
With their win, the Railsplitters improve to 7-3 this year while maintaining a perfect record at home which was boosted to 7-0.
The Splitters dropped just one in doubles play, taking the first point of the match. The second pairing of Natalia Reimer and Adriana Pellizzari translated 3-0 lead early into a 5-3 advantage and an eventual 6-4 win, moving to 7-2 as a pair on the year
Alexandra Ortiz and Mar Garcia Bucosa polished off the doubles point in the third pairing, cruising to a 6-2 win over the Lions, improving to 3-1 together this season.
The Railsplitters would jump out to a 2-1 lead in the second singles match thanks to Reimer, who took a 3-3 tie in the first set and turned it into a 6-4 win before running out to a 4-1 lead in the second set, which Reimer took 6-3.
The third draw would also belong to the Splitters, as Pellizzari took her fifth win of the season in a straight set sweep of the Lions. Pellizzari would take the first set 6-2 after starting the match 4-0, and would earn a 6-3 win in set two to lock in the 3-1 LMU lead.
Rosalie Carrier-Dulac sealed the win for LMU, taking both sets in the fifth singles pool, securing a 6-2 win in the opener thanks to an early run before taking the second set in a closer 6-4 match that gave Lincoln Memorial the clinching fourth point of the afternoon.
The fifth win of the day for the Splitters came from the last singles match as Ortiz fought through three sets to pick up her fifth win of the season. After running away with a 6-1 win in the first set, the second set would be a hard-fought loss for Ortiz, with her opponent claiming a 7-6 win via the 7-5 tiebreaker. That set up a winner-take-all third set, which Ortiz ran away with 10-1 in tiebreakers to claim a 1-0 third set win.
Lincoln Memorial is back in action tomorrow, this time hosting Emory & Henry at 1:30 p.m. in a South Atlantic Conference matchup.
