Mars Hill, N.C. - The 16th-ranked Lincoln Memorial Men's Tennis team picked up their fifth conference win of the season, defeating Mars Hill on the road by a score of 7-0. The win makes the Railsplitters 11-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
LMU started the day by taking the doubles point from the Lions, as the second and third pairings translated early leads into big wins. In the second pair, Mathis Amsellem and Alexandru Rares Giurea raced out to an early 4-0 lead on their opponents, setting the tone en route to a 6-1 victory as the pair claimed their fourth win of the season.
The third pairing of Ethan Hirons and Radu Florea followed suit, starting 2-0 before taking a 5-1 lead, walking to a 6-2 victory as the Railsplitters duo that entered the day ranked 38th in the nation secured their 10th win of the year.
Giurea continued his hot hand into singles play, as in the first pairing, the Splitters took a 2-0 lead on Mars Hill thanks to a straight-sets sweep, as Giurea took both sets with a dominating score of 6-1, as he improved to 9-1 in individual play.
Florea would put LMU one point away from victory, as he needed just two sets to take the third singles set. The first set was all Florea, as the junior claimed all six points in a 6-0 sweep before taking the final set 6-2, giving the Railsplitters a 3-0 advantage.
The win was secured by Sergio Sebastian Aranzeta Boneta, who dominated in the fourth singles pool by taking the two sets by a combined 12-2. Boneta opened the match with a 3-2 lead on his opponent, and wouldn't allow the Lion to score again, winning 6-2 and 6-0.
Mathias Roy would tack on another point for LMU, taking the second singles match for his second win of the year. After a close 6-3 win in the first set, Roy ran away with the second set in a 6-1 win.
The final points would come from Kai Miyatake and Jakub Hrasek, who each took their only sets in singles play, earning wins and pushing LMU to a 7-0 win, as Miyatake took an 8-4 victory while Hrasek netted a clean 8-0 sweep.
The Railsplitters are back home tomorrow, taking on No. 23 Lee at 2:00 p.m. in a ranked regional showdown in Harrogate.
