HARROGATE, TN - Lincoln Memorial softball kept its momentum rolling Tuesday at Dorothy Neely Softball Complex, sweeping Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to push its win streak to four straight.
LMU opened the day with a 12-8 win, jumping in front early and answering every Tusculum push. The Splitters plated four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Nicole Couvertiere's bases-clearing home run that brought home Hannah McMeen, Kristin Griffin and Reese Vivrette. LMU kept the pressure on in the second when Cassidy Hack ripped a two-run double to score Griffin and Couvertiere, then broke it open in the fifth with a four-run frame. Griffin drove in a pair with a triple, and Jordann Reagan followed with an RBI single. In the sixth, Hanna Bogoski added a two-run triple to score Vivrette and Reagan as LMU built enough separation to close out the opener. In the circle, Aslynn Lupton provided a steady finish in relief, working the final four innings.
Game two featured another strong start and a complete team effort as LMU earned a 6-3 victory to finish the sweep. Griffin sparked the offense again with an RBI triple in the first, and McMeen followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Vivrette delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon in the second, lining a two-run triple to score Couvertiere and Griffin. After Tusculum trimmed the deficit in the fifth, LMU responded with an RBI groundout from Griffin to tack on an insurance run. Brooke Strickland went six innings in the win, striking out four, and Jasmine Kaylor shut the door in the seventh to secure the sweep.
LMU returns to the road this weekend as the Splitters continue SAC play with a doubleheader at Mars Hill on Saturday, April 4. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., followed by game two at 3 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C.
