HARROGATE, TN - Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball closed the regular season with a Senior Day victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Tusculum 3-1 in Mary Mars Gym by set scores of 26-24, 30-28, 23-25 and 25-18.
LMU put together one of its strongest offensive performances of the season, totaling 59 kills while hitting .333 as a team. The Railsplitters also added 42 digs, 51 assists and six total blocks in the win. Tusculum finished with 40 kills and a .205 hitting percentage.
The opening set was tight throughout, but Lincoln Memorial found a way to finish late. With the score tied 24-24, Axel van Baars delivered a kill to give LMU set point before Relja Milosavljevic came up with the block that sealed a 26-24 win.
Set two was another battle and featured one of the biggest swings of the match. Tusculum led 24-22 late in the frame, but the Railsplitters answered behind Johan Negron and pulled even at 24-all. The teams traded points deep into extra rallies before LMU closed out the 30-28 win on a Tusculum attack error followed by a Negron service ace.
Tusculum responded in the third set and edged out a 25-23 decision to extend the match, but the Railsplitters regained control in the fourth. Lincoln Memorial hit .393 in the final set without committing an attack error and held the Pioneers to a .133 mark to finish off the 3-1 win.
Negron led the way offensively with 16 kills on a blistering .652 hitting percentage while also adding two service aces. Van Baars followed with 12 kills, Walsh totaled 10 kills on .500 hitting, and Georgios Armaos added nine kills. Inbar Shachar directed the offense with 41 assists, while Milosavljevic posted 11 digs and three solo blocks.
Saturday's match also marked Senior Day for the Railsplitters, who honored Sam Higdon, Zadyn Labreche, Jakub Wiaderny, van Baars, Negron and Cal Shrimplin prior to the regular-season finale.
Lincoln Memorial will now turn its attention to the IVA Tournament, set for April 16-18 in Miami.
