Harrogate, TN – After another strong season, the No. 24 Lincoln Memorial men's tennis team is off to compete in the South Atlantic Conference tournament, kicking off the tournament against Coker University on Thursday.
The Railsplitters captured the third-seed in the tournament with a record of 14-9, going 8-3 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Railsplitters season was highlighted by setting a new program high ranking, reaching the No. 16 spot in the DII ITA Poll at one point.
LMU heads to Sumter coming off a two-win week to round out the regular season, as the Splitters swept UVA Wise at home on senior day before taking a road win against Carson-Newman on Thursday 4-1.
On the courts, the Splitters found success from Alexandru Rares Giurea, who ranked 62nd in the last ITA ranking of the regular season for singles play, having gone 10-5 in individual competition highlighted with five SAC wins this season.
On the doubles court, Victor Bourguignon and Sergio Sebastian Aranzeta Boneta have led the way with eight wins as a pairing, mostly out of the top position. The duo's 8-6 record has been bolstered by having gone 5-2 in conference matchups this season.
LMU will attempt to replicate their first meeting against Coker on March 7th, as LMU picked up their seventh win of the year with a perfect 4-0 sweep of the Cobras. Bourguignon and Aranzeta Boneta started the day with a 6-2 doubles win, while Giurea and Bourguignon drew the spotlight in singles games.
The South Atlantic Conference tournament begins on Thursday and will run through Saturday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina, with the winner of Thursdays match drawing either Wingate or Anderson in the semifinals.
