Wingate, NC - Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse falls to the Wingate Bulldogs Saturday 4-22.
The Bulldogs started out with offensive pressure as they added the first three goals of the day within the first five minutes from the quarter, but Lincoln Memorial responded with their first goal of the day by
Josie Tinnerello with a free position goal with 9:36 remaining. The back-and-forth scoring began as Wingate followed with a goal with 9:04 remaining, and the Railsplitters decreased the deficit by half with 7:32 remaining, as
Jaiden Jaynes recorded her first goal of the day, with the assist coming from Tinnerello. With Wingate adding five more goals to their score before the end of the frame, Lincoln Memorial goes into the second falling 2-9.
The Railsplitters came out more aggressive offensively in the second, as they scored first with Tinnerello scoring unassisted with 13:01 remaining. The rest of the quarter was all Wingate with seven more goals, making the score 3-16 going into halftime with the Bulldogs taking the lead.
The third and fourth quarter Wingate slowed down, as they only scored three in the third and three in the fourth. The third began with two Bulldog goals for the first four minutes, and Tinnerello scored another free position goal with 7:20 remaining. Wingate followed up with their last goal of the quarter, giving Wingate the 4-19 lead going into the final frame.
It was all Wingate in the fourth, as they scored three goals, giving them the 4-22 victory.
Tinnerello led in points with four for three goals and one assist, and Jayens followed with one point for one goal.
Tinnerello led in shots and shots on goal with six and six, respectively.
Mary Kostus was the team-leader in ground balls with three, and
Sage Leax led in caused turnovers with three. Jaynes led with seven draw controls. Goalkeepers
Emily Mirabile and
Jovie Favati both earned time in goal, with Favati recording four saves and Mirabile getting one.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial took nine shots, with seven being on goal, recorded 15 ground balls, five saves, 14 successful clears, and five draw controls.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial drops to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play, and Wingate improves to 13-3 overall and 9-0 in the SAC.
The team's next match is on the road as they travel to Mars Hill, NC to face Mars Hill on Wednesday, April 22
nd at 4 pm.
