Fort Lauderdale, FL – The weather delay was no match for Lincoln Memorial men's soccer as they defeat the Nova Southeastern Sharks Sunday evening 1-3.
Lincoln Memorial was tested early as Nova had an opportunity to score within the first minute, but the Railsplitters quickly picked up the pace, outshooting the Sharks 2-8 in the first 20 minutes of the opening frame.
LMU took the lead in the 21
st minute as
Hays Adams took a one-touch shot above the 18-yard box, assisted by
Filipe Ribeiro.
With the Railsplitters dominating the first half offensively and limiting the Shark's opportunities, Lincoln Memorial went into halftime with the 0-1 lead.
Nova Southeastern quickly evened up the score in the second half as Alexander Sasser scored in the 47
th minute. After the goal, both teams continued to battle for possession, with both teams getting chances at the net.
Even though the Sharks started out the half strong, Lincoln Memorial started to capitalize on Shark mistakes. In the 76
th minute, a miscalculated clearance from the NSU backline gave the ball right to
Antonio Talavera, who chipped it over the goalkeeper to give the lead back to LMU 1-2.
The Railsplitters continued to extend the lead two minutes later in the 78
th minute, after a misjudged pass back to the Shark goalkeeper gave
Hays Adams an easy goal to the open net, making the score 1-3 with 12 minutes to go.
The two teams continued to battle, but Lincoln Memorial came out with the 1-3 victory.
Hays Adams led the team with two goals, followed by Talavera with one. Ribeiro tallied the lone assist of the night. Adams led in both shots and shots on goal with six and four, respectively.
Daniel Benedek Miklosi played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save.
As a team, LMU dominated in shots (12-22), shots on goal (5-9) and corners (5-10), but Nova topped the Railsplitters in saves (6-4).
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to a 1-1 record.
The team will have nearly a week off as they return home for their home and conference opener on Saturday, September 5
th against Wingate at 4:00 pm.
