Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial men's soccer begins conference play with a 2-1 win over the Wingate Bulldogs Saturday evening.
Lincoln Memorial took more of the offensive chances to start the first half as LMU had 3 shots by the 15
th minute, which included the only shot on goal in the first half by either team by LMU's
Christopher Ramos. Wingate didn't take their first shot of the half until the 24
th minute.
The closing half of the first frame was calmer, as each team only recorded one shot, making the scoreboard scoreless going into the halftime break.
The Railsplitters came out of the locker room ready, as they started the second half with a goal by
Lasse Kidde Amstrup in the 46
th minute off a deflected save from the Bulldog goalkeeper.
Wingate responded not even two minutes later in the 47
th minute with a goal of their own to tie up the match again, scored by Hipo Delhaes.
Possession was battled back-and-forth, as both teams were getting scoring opportunities, but none were capitalized on.
LMU's Kidde Amstrup scored once again in the 67
th minute to record a brace and to gain the lead back for Lincoln Memorial, 2-1.
The Railsplitter defense was strong as all of Wingate's shots for the next 20 minutes were either blocked or off target. The Bulldogs created a few more opportunities before the end of the match, but were saved by
Daniel Benedek Miklosi, giving LMU the 2-1 conference win.
Lasse Kidde Amstrup scored both goals for Lincoln Memorial, while also leading in shots and shots on goal with two and three, respectively. Benedek Miklosi played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves.
As a team, the Railsplitters beat Wingate in shots (14-10) and saves (4-3) but were topped in corner kicks (2-7).
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play and Wingate falls to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
LMU will have a couple of days off as they prepare for Lynn University on Tuesday, September 8
th at home, with kick off set for 7:00 pm.
