Newberry, SC – Lincoln Memorial men's soccer falls to the Newberry Wolves Saturday afternoon 0-2.
The Railsplitters came out with some fire, as LMU took eight shots in the first 30 minutes of the match and did not allow the Wolves to take any. Despite the strong offensive and defensive efforts by Lincoln Memorial, the first shot by Newberry resulted in a goal, as Curtis scored in the 31
st minute to give Newberry the lead.
The last 15 minutes there were fewer scoring chances, as each team only took one more shot before the end of the half to leave the Wolves in the 1-0 lead.
For the first 19 minutes of the second half, Lincoln Memorial outshot the Wolves 4-1, but Newberry took the lead in the 69
th minute by Bekhvandi to extend their lead 2-0.
The Railsplitters kept on pushing as they continued to produce more scoring opportunities with shots coming from
Enrique Martin and
Filipe Ribeiro, but could not score, giving Newberry the win.
Ribeiro led the Railsplitters in shots, with eight shots and six shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Daniel Benedek Miklosi played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial outshot Newberry 20-5 (9-4 on goal), and had more corner kicks 9-2.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial drops to 3-2-1 and 2-1 in conference play, and Newberry improves to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.
The team will have a quick turnaround as they will make the trip to Greeneville, TN to face Tusculum on Wednesday, September 23
rd at 7:30 pm.
